Add a TradingView backtest to your strategy

Export the List of trades from TradingView's Strategy Tester, upload it to a Nyria strategy, choose public or private, and read the Backtest section.

A backtest sits on the strategy's Overview tab. It shows an equity curve, six statistics, monthly returns and every trade. Only the strategy's owner adds one.

Export from TradingView

Open your strategy on a chart in TradingView and let the test finish.
Open the Strategy Tester panel under the chart and select the List of trades tab.
Select the Download icon at the top right of the panel. TradingView saves a CSV.

Each tab downloads on its own, so download from List of trades, not from the performance summary.

TradingView's full report download, an .xlsx file, works too. It also carries the run's settings, which Nyria shows as chips above the statistics.

Upload it to Nyria

Open your strategy and stay on Overview. With no backtest yet, the page shows an Add a backtest card. Select Add backtest.
Choose or drop the file. Nyria takes .csv and .xlsx, up to 10 MB.
Check the details. Symbol, Timeframe and Initial capital are read from the file when it has them, so fill in any it misses.
Set Chart time zone to the one your TradingView chart showed: New York, Chicago, UTC or London. It starts on New York, or UTC for a crypto strategy.
Choose whether to turn on Show on the strategy page. It starts off.
Select Import.

Without an initial capital, net return and drawdown show in currency instead of percent.

Nyria reads the file once and keeps the trades from it, not the file. A second upload of the same file to the same strategy is refused. Export a new run to add another.

You can also add a backtest on the first screen of Create strategy when the alert source is TradingView. Open Backtest results, choose the file and set Show on the strategy page. The upload happens once the strategy is created. If it fails, add it again from the strategy's page.

Public or private

  • Private: only you see it. The section is marked Only you.
  • Public: anyone who can open the strategy page sees it. On a Premium strategy that includes people who haven't subscribed.

Change it any time from the Backtest options menu: Show on strategy page or Hide from others.

A strategy with no public backtest shows visitors no Backtest section.

Visitors see the run's capital, order size, commission, slippage and similar settings. The script's own inputs from the report stay with you.

What the section shows

Under the title it reads: Hypothetical backtest from TradingView. Simulated results aren't live results and don't predict future returns.

  • Chips: the symbol, timeframe, date range, capital and the run's settings.
  • Statistics: net return, max drawdown, win rate, profit factor, trades and average trade. Dollar figures sit under the percentages.
  • Chart: the Equity view draws the return on initial capital.
  • Monthly: a grid of returns by month.
  • Trades: every trade in the file.
  • Price chart: the symbol's price with each entry and exit marked. It isn't shown for a futures strategy or when the symbol is empty.

Backtest against live

Once the strategy has live trades on Nyria, a vs Live view appears beside Equity on stock and crypto strategies. It adds up each trade's return for the backtest and the live record, and draws the live line from where the backtest stood when live trading began.

A table under the chart sets the two side by side: trades, win rate, how often it trades and, on stock and crypto strategies, average trade.

Owner checks

When the file carries TradingView's own summary, you see a line under the chart that visitors don't. It reads Matches the file's own summary, or names the figures that differ and says Nyria's come from the trades.

Change or delete a backtest

Open Backtest options, the three dots at the top right of the section.

  • Edit details changes the symbol, timeframe, capital, time zone and visibility. Statistics are recalculated when you change the capital or time zone.
  • Add backtest adds another. With more than one, a menu above the section chooses which to show.
  • Delete removes it from the strategy page for good.

If the upload fails

  • Choose an .xlsx or .csv export. The file ended in something else.
  • Couldn't read this file. Export it again from the Strategy Tester. Download from the List of trades tab.
  • This backtest has no closed trades. Every trade in the test was still open.
  • This file is already on this strategy. Export a new run instead.

A repainting script can show a backtest that it never traded live. See TradingView repainting before you share results.
